Benefits of Lime Essential Oil
Just like all other citrus essential oils, lime is known to be a powerful support for your immune system because of its potent supply of vitamin C. The lime fruit may be famous for being a garnish for cocktails, but in its essential oil form, it can work wonders for your health and mood.
The essential oil of lime is extracted by cold compression of fresh lime peels. The scientific name of lime is Citrus aurantifolia. It is composed of compounds such as alpha pinene, beta pinene, myrcene, limonene, terpinolene, cineole, linalool, borneol, citral, neral acetate, and geranyl acetate.
Lime essential oil is a very uplifting scent that promotes well being and emotional balance. It is a great oil to diffuse on days when you are not feeling your best, to balance emotions, lift your mood and help reduce feelings of sadness.
Sharing the antidepressant properties of other citrus oils, like orange and lemon, lime essential oil also works to help alleviate feelings of stress, anxiety, and depression by lowering the heart rate and reducing cortisol levels. Cortisol is known as the main stress hormone.
Diffusing 6-8 drops of Lime essential oil helps purifies the air, protect the immune system and uplift your mood. A few drops can be added to your lava stone jewellery to have the aroma with you throughout the day.
Lime essential oil is a great choice to add to a roller bottles because of it's uplifting aroma. Fill a roller bottle with fractionated coconut oil, leaving enough space for the essential oils. Add 15-20 drops of Lime or make your own favourite blend. An example of a calming roller bottle would be to add 5-8 drops of Lime, 5-8 drops of Lavender and 5-8 drops of Blood Orange then fill with fractionated coconut oil.
Lime essential oil can also be used as a cleaner for countertops or grease spots. Use about 20-25 drops of Lime in your vinegar and water mixture.
